The connecting thread in Giselle Lila-Renée's artistic work is intuition that she works in the strictest respect, by following its inherent logic. Each production offers to the eye and to the mind a multitude of symbols on several levels of reading and of interpretation. Those symbols are naturally impressed on the canvas for they stem from the deepest levels of the artist's emotions. Though her work, Giselle is Woman, carrying a feminine view of the world, of the past, present, and sometimes future of the women hopes in our modern societies.

The artwork of GLR is that of a maturity earned from work, time, and the strong experiences provided by life. At age 33, the artist left her career in communication to conduct fondamental research on intuition. History, Literature, and Religion framed the preparation of her PhD in Paris and in Scotland, a PhD that she obtained eight years later. On the one hand, she devoured books and had two essays published, and on the other she practised intuition through art. Giselle Lila-Renée started composing images as she took up studies again, knowing intuitively that both aspects were indissoluble and vital.

GLR began her artwork by composing figurative collagesTriumphs (on the left) is her first work. Those cut and paste characters constitute the artist identities; they are internal women, men, animals, and things that are canalized throught the artistic act. By putting her first compositions in front of her eyes, and notably friends portraits, GLR realized that what she could imagine of the world outside (the face of a dear friend) have had a personal impression on herself inside that seemed accurate to her and that could touch others too, this friend perhaps. She discovered this way that she was an artist.

As she moved to Scotland, her collages turned to abstraction. The new collages became as abstract as the language of English that she had to learn. As the universe of the artist widened and as the tone of the collages enriched from a wealth of symbolic topics, the content of the artistic scope of her artwork broadened.

Back to France, Giselle discovered the strength and the fragility of oil pastel on paper. This medium, thanks to its creamy and soft consistancy, reveals, lights up, and sublimates the symbols. GLR's art discovered itself sensual.

Today Giselle adds to her technics the power of acrylic and aerosol spray. Nothing is more profound than painting oil. GLR paints larger and larger canvas full of colours. She might even feel ready for her dream of sculpture. Some souvenirs might take shape in three dimensions.
